When My Daughter Started Coughing and I Chose to Wait
My daughter has had a cough for a couple of weeks.
And I’ve done… nothing.
Not because I don’t care, but because she’s been otherwise healthy - eating, sleeping, laughing, and full of energy. Her body has been doing what it was designed to do: find balance.
But then I started coughing too.
And that’s when the guilt crept in.
That familiar voice whispered, “You should’ve treated her sooner.”
As a mother - and as a homeopath - I’ve learned how quickly love can turn into worry when it comes to our children’s health. That instinct to fix every symptom runs deep. It’s part of being a caregiver.
But over time, I’ve also learned something important: not every symptom needs to be treated right away.
Sometimes, the body just needs space to do its job.
A cough isn’t always a problem to silence. It can be a sign that the body is clearing, processing, restoring.
Homeopathy teaches us to look beyond the surface:
Is vitality strong?
Is energy stable?
Is sleep and appetite normal?
If so, maybe what’s happening isn’t illness - it’s healing.
Of course, there’s a line.
If the body gets stuck, if recovery stalls, if vitality drops - that’s when we step in. That’s when homeopathy shines: gently guiding the body back into rhythm without forcing it.
So when you’re unsure whether to treat or wait, ask yourself:
Is my child’s energy good?
Is their appetite normal?
Are they improving, even slowly?
If the answer is yes, trust the process a little longer.
And if not, that’s when it’s time for support.
Because real healing begins with listening and observing.
